This web site was created in February 2009 as a result of a nagging feeling that the quality of Apple products was slipping of late. Having owned countless Macs and other Apple products since 1984, I’ve seen the ups and downs of quality.
Hardware has been not too bad, in my experience, but there are some items worth mentioning.
OS X had a very rough start, improved with each release, but in spite of the nice features in 10.5 Leopard, the quality has suffered substantially.
Then there’s Apple’s attitude towards their customers. Sure, they build nice products that many people simply must own. However, it’s no secret that Apple has always had a “We know what’s best for you” attitude. Is it just me, or is it getting worse?
It seems to me that Apple is no longer content to show disdain towards their customers, but now seems to deliberately taunt us. For example, the lack of Copy and Paste for the iPhone and iPod Touch. They know we want it, no — need it — but they can withhold it, so they do. [Note to self: iPhone OS 3.0 in June 2009 will finally add this feature. If you nag for two years, Apple will relent.]
The purpose of this site is to offer constructive, adult guidance to Apple Inc., as I fear they really haven’t grown up in spite of their success. That’s why I call them a precocious child.
The articles on this site will take the approach that I’m talking as a customer directly to Apple as a company, or directly to someone at Apple who is responsible for the product or service that is the target of the comment.
How did I arrive at the domain name “AppleNag”, you ask? Well, just as a child looks upon a parent who offers advice, and correction on behaviour, often times repetitively, they appear to be a nag. In reality, I’m really selfish in that I’m an Apple customer and really want to see them improve. It’s also short and catchy.
And the logo? It’s a mashup of a finger pointing, like scolding a child, the retro-Apple logo colours, and a “thumb” that has the new logo colour scheme.
